"The United Nations recognizes the World Tourism Organization as the appropriate organization to collect, to analyse, to publish, to standardize and to improve the statistics of tourism, and to promote the integration of these statistics within the sphere of the United Nations system."

Tourism statistics is the keystone for fostering adequate tourism policies and consequently, economic progress. In this regard, the Statistics and Tourism Satellite Account Programme mission consists in developing the national Systems of Tourism Statistics, international comparability as well as the macroeconomic analysis of tourism.

In view of that purpose, our Programme focuses its activity on the reinforcement of a statistical methodology based in international standards recognized by the UN, on the dissemination of up-dated statistical data of tourism and on the promotion of excellence in statistics for Member States.
